How to Terminate a Cobra Status

A Cobra status should be terminated in the following instances:

  • Cobra stops paying for premiums
  • Continuation period ends
  • Death of Cobra member

Follow the steps below to terminate a Cobra member:

Search for a Cobra participant using the Status field in the Find Employee Search Bar.

Navigate to the Employee Info screen.

Expand the Status Information section.

Click the Edit icon on the current status.

Enter a date within the Cobra End field.

Click the Save icon.

When terminating a Cobra status, the date must be the actual date coverage will end. For example, if payment was not received for the month of November, the Cobra end date must be 11/30 in order to correctly calculate the benefit termination dates.

Termination of Cobra status will terminate all Cobra benefits and any covered dependents.
